James was born in Wikwemikong, Ontario in 1954 to a family of thirteen. James realized his gift at a very early age and his first international art exhibition was held in Rome at the age of nineteen. His most common statement is: Any artist in the world will reflect his surrounds to paint his subjects and how that artist delivers his message means success in what he does. His most common theme is painting islands and water because a human being is an island and his inner universe is made out of water.
Duncan Cameron is a bilingual singer and multi-instrumentalist performing traditional Celtic folk music with diverse influences. He plays fiddle, guitar, bouzouki, harmonica, and other instruments. His thoughtful arrangements, use of a looper, and engaging sense of humour make his shows memorable and unique.
Mast is the creation of new-ish Island resident, Simon de Sousa, who is building on his decade plus years of experience in fine dining. Simon has been a fixture of the NEMI farmer’s market and various popups across Mnidoo Mnising for the past two years. He has worked to introduce customers to inventive baked creations featuring Island suppliers’ products in collaborative ways. Mast has also begun to hold intimate private dining gatherings under the moniker of ‘Cairn,’ featuring elaborate, multi-course dinners championing vegetable-forward cuisine and crafted beverage pairings.
